Common words and phrases.

Some of the terms used throughout this site may be unfamiliar to some readers. This glossary offers an explanation or translation of these terms in hopes of clarifying information. I have actually preferred to use the english translations throughout most of this site, but there are some terms that are easier to leave untranslated because they are either commonly used by fans or are unique to the series itself.

Common Japanese Terms
anime - Japanese term for an animated series.
bishoujo - Japanese word for a young, pretty girl.
hiragana - Simplified way of writing in Japanese.
kanji - Complex Japanese written characters.
katakana - Japanese characters used exclusively for foreign words.
manga - Japanese word for comic.
miko - Japanese term for a priestess who works in a Shinto shrine.
romanization - The English spelling for a word originally written in Japanese characters.
senshi - Japanese word for soldier, warrior.

Specific Sailor Moon Terms
Ginzuishou - Translates into "mystical silver crystal," Sailor Moon's source of power.
Inner Senshi - Fan-made term referring to Sailor Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and sometimes Chibi-Moon.
Outer Senshi - Fan-made term referring to Sailor Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Saturn.
Silver Millennium - The past ruled by Queen Serenity, or the future, ruled by Neo-Queen Serenity.
Talismans - The Space Sword, Deep Aqua Mirror and Garnet Orb.

Sailor Moon - The first season of the 90's anime, inspired by Dark Kingdom arc of manga.
Sailor Moon R - The second season of the 90's anime, inspired by Black Moon arc of manga.
Sailor Moon S - The third season of the 90's anime, inspired by Infinity arc of manga.
Sailor Moon SuperS - The fourth season of the 90's anime, inspired by Dream arc of manga.
Sailor Moon Sailor Stars - The fifth and final season of the 90's anime, inspired by Stars arc of manga.
Sailor Moon Crystal - The upcoming 2014 anime reboot, based closely on original manga series.

Sailor Moon Manga Story Arcs
Dark Kingdom - The first story arc; Inner senshi vs Queen Metalia and the Dark Kingdom.
Black Moon - Second story arc; Inner senshi vs future Black Moon clan.
Infinity - Third story arc; Inner & Outer senshi vs Pharaoh 90 and the Death Busters.
Dream - Fourth story arc; Inner & Outer senshi vs Queen Nehelenia and the Dead Moon Circus.
Stars - Fifth story arc; Inner, Outer senshi & Starlights vs Sailor Galaxia and Chaos.
